As you can imagine I am very fond of getting out of town and my most favourite place to visit is the Lake District in Cumbria, which for all my friends “Down South”, is very much “Up North”. I am a great believer in exploring and appreciating all the amazing places there are in this little country of ours. Whilst the idea of deciding where to go and when are pretty easy, the subject of how we are going to get the most from our visit is much more difficult. As you know I can walk, but my mobility is not the best on anything other than completely flat surfaces, even then I have what is commonly called an unsteady gait, Mum prefers to call me wonky donkey, which I think fits me pretty well. At present I have a basic folding wheelchair which is fabulous for loading into the car along with the picnic bags and other necessary items I need for a day out, the boot is packed with military precision and usually we are underway without too much fuss. The real fun starts when it comes to unloading the boot, getting me into my chair and beginning our walk, if there hasn’t been much rain when we visit then Mum and Jacob can usually push, pull, drag or lift me to where we want to go but it is hard work. So I have decided the second item on my Bucket list is an all terrain wheelchair from Mountain Trike, it is an amazing piece of equipment which will mean even if the weather isn’t kind I can still get around, plus I will be able to visit many of the places I haven’t been able to before, that is the most exciting part. I may even be able to tackle some of Wainwrights fells, now wouldn’t that be amazing.
